Matthew Trusch is the Head of our Personal Injury department, based in our Manchester office.
Professional Biography
Matthew achieved his LLB in Law with Business Administration from Keele University in 2005 and completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Central Lancashire in 2007. Whilst studying, he was an active member of the Pro Bono Team, contributing to the wider community through offering free legal advice.
Since qualifying as a Solicitor in 2009, Matthew has focused exclusively on Personal Injury law. His specialty lies in accidents at work, alongside a broad experience in employer’s and public liability, product liability, road traffic accident claims, animal attack injuries, and foreign jurisdiction claims, including accidents at sea and airline accidents. Over his career, Matthew has expertly handled thousands of claims on behalf of his clients, securing the compensation they rightfully deserved. His expertise covers handling claims valued at over £1 million, where he provided indispensable support to claimants suffering from severe injuries, ranging from amputations to brain injuries.
Since joining Simpson Millar in March 2024, Matthew’s been leading our nationally recognised Personal Injury department that handles employer’s and public liability claims, overseeing the team's performance, technical and operational running. His day-to-day responsibilities include achieving key performance targets and commercial goals, managing team development, and ensuring compliance with processes, policies, and procedures in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Case Studies / Notable Cases
Matthew's notable cases include securing over £250,000 for a Transport for London engineer severely injured on the job, leading to a policy change at TFL to improve safety measures. He also successfully obtained compensation under the Fatal Accidents Act for the family of a 14-year-old tragically killed in a road accident. This case not only provided the family with financial relief during a time of immense grief but also highlighted the importance of road safety and the responsibilities of drivers to prevent such tragic incidents.
Matthew’s journey into law began with work experience at a law firm at just 15 years old, sparking a passion that guided him through his educational and professional milestones. His driving force is his commitment to providing clients with the highest standard of care and to fostering the development of technically skilled Lawyers who are passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes for their clients.
