Jessica Wake is a Solicitor in our Education and Children’s Rights team, based in the Lancaster office.
Professional Biography
Jessica graduated from Northumbria University in 2018 with a Law Degree (LLB) specialising in International Business. She later completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at The University of Law, graduating in 2022. She qualified as a Solicitor in October 2024.
Jessica joined Simpson Millar in July 2018, beginning her career as a Paralegal and Education Law Advisor, assisting parents and young people through the Civil Legal Advice Helpline. Her work focused on supporting families in securing the right educational support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). In 2022, she secured a training contract, which allowed her to gain experience across multiple legal areas, including Education Law, Court of Protection, and Child Care Proceedings, before returning to the Education and Children’s Rights team upon qualification.
Jessica specialises in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) law. She has successfully supported families in securing Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments (EHCNA) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) through appeals to the SEND Tribunal. Jessica has also helped children and young people gain access to specialist school placements, both day and residential, as well as tailored education packages for those unable to attend school or college (EOTISC). She ensures that children receive the specialist support they need within mainstream schools and colleges so that their education fully meets their needs.
Her day-to-day work involves managing a varied caseload of SEND Tribunal appeals and Judicial Review claims, advocating for children and young people who require specialist educational provision. She works closely with parents, local authorities, and educational institutions to ensure that children receive the appropriate support and resources they need to thrive in education.
